ENLIGHT boosts sustainability policies at Comenius University in Bratislava

Members of the ENLIGHT project community of Comenius University have been actively promoting sustainability and eco-friendly policy within the institution.

Representatives of the Work Package Connect have successfully negotiated with the university management on the setting of additional conditions for the procurement of a new canteen operator for the university campus, which would consider sustainable and environmentally friendly catering. Moreover, CU has started to work on an application for the call of the Slovak Ministry of Environment under the Operational Program Quality of Environment to receive EU structural funds in order to establish a university Environmental Center and to support activities related to adaptation to climate change. At the same time, small ‘green initiatives’ are already in place - the CU Faculty of Arts and Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin have joined the national campaign “Bike-to-work”, organized by the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic. The initiative aims at promoting the usage and spread of non-motorized transport in urban areas. The Faculty of Natural Sciences has held an exhibition on Sustainable Development Goals to raise awareness of the United Nations Agenda 2030. The mentioned faculty has also introduced new separation containers for fluorescent lamps and LED lamps and planted the first strip of meadow flowers within the lawns around its building to support biodiversity. The CU team of the ENLIGHT Connect is determined to continue the work on reaching the project’s sustainability goals and to establish the CU’s long-term sustainability strategy.
